Here’s a Christmas treat that won’t throw you off track!
A deliciously nutritious Pumpkin Spice Eggnog Protein Smoothie, to keep those EggNog cravings at bay during the festive season (actually, eggnog is delicious no matter what time of year, but that’s just us).
And if you’re having a crazy time at the moment it’s a quick, convenient meal on the go.

This smoothie is chock-a-block full of delicious nutrition, we’ve included some information about the main ingredients used, however if you’re after extra nutritional information about the other ingredients, we recommend heading either to Examine.com and/or to NutritionData.com.
Pumpkin – This food is low in Saturated Fat, and very low in Cholesterol and Sodium. It is also a good source of Vitamin E (Alpha Tocopherol), Thiamin, Niacin, Vitamin B6, Folate, Iron, Magnesium and Phosphorus, and a very good source of Dietary Fiber, Vitamin A, Vitamin C, Riboflavin, Potassium, Copper and Manganese.
Spinach – This food is low in Saturated Fat, and very low in Cholesterol. It is also a good source of Niacin and Zinc, and a very good source of Dietary Fiber, Protein, Vitamin A, Vitamin C, Vitamin E (Alpha Tocopherol), Vitamin K, Thiamin, Riboflavin, Vitamin B6, Folate, Calcium, Iron, Magnesium, Phosphorus, Potassium, Copper and Manganese.
Flax Seed Oil – Flaxseed is one of the most concentrated plant sources of omega-3 fats. Flaxseeds contain 50 to 60 per cent omega-3 fatty acids in the form of alpha-linolenic acid. Flaxseeds are also rich in antioxidants, B vitamins, dietary fibre, a group of phytoestrogens called lignans, protein and potassium.
Protein – Proteins are a part of the building blocks for life, they’re used to make everything that you’re made up of (even your toenails). Proteins are also used to make enzymes, hormones, neurotransmitters and other various compounds that your body uses to regulate function. Proteins are made up of amino acids; which look like a string under a microscope. Some of these aminos are internally sourced, however others you need to get from what you put into your body ie. the food you eat.

Pumpkin Spice Eggnog Protein Smoothie
Time: 5-10 minutes
- 1.5 cups of cooked pumpkin
- 1 raw egg
- 250 ml liquid, you could use water to keep calories low or a creamy alternative, vitasoy low fat coconut milk
- 1 block frozen spinach (approx half a cup to a cup fresh)
- 1/2 a cup of ice
- 1/2 tsp vanilla essence
- 1/2 a teaspoon of nutmeg
- 1 tsp flax seed oil
- pinch of Himalayan salt
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1 serve of vanilla protein: I use PSA's Paleo Pro Vanilla Bean
